Energy Storage Global Report Launched

Today the Australian Energy Storage Council (ESC) – the peak body for the Australian energy storage industry – has formally released the 2015 Global Energy Storage Market Overview & Regional Summary Report.

“The boom in electric vehicle sales has delivered compact, energy dense and increasingly cheap batteries for other uses”, said John Grimes, Chief Executive of the Energy Storage Council.

“There is very strong interest in batteries linked to solar photovoltaics, and in micro-grids as prices fall. By 2030 the International Renewable Energy Agency forecast 150,000 megawatts of battery storage will be needed globally”.

“For the first time industry analysts, researchers, government and the media are paying attention to a market they have not covered before. This report is a fantastic starting point to learn more about this exciting sector”.

“No matter how you look at it, technology, economics and government policy are coming together to unleash a new force in global electricity in the form of the global energy storage market.”

“The ESC is excited at the opportunity to collaborate with our international partners and experts to produce this introductory report on the global energy storage industry.”

Major international energy storage organisations and experts providing input to the report include the Australian Energy Storage Council, California Energy Storage Alliance, China Energy Storage Alliance, DNV GL, India Energy Storage Alliance and the National Electrical Communications Association.

“This introductory report identifies the applications, geographies and technologies that will experience the greatest growth in the short term. It looks at the economics of key applications and timeframes for their adoption.”

The Report is available to all members and partners of contributing organisations.

The Australian Energy Storage Council is a national member based not-for-profit organisation governed by a volunteer board.

The Australian Energy Storage Council represents members including technology manufacturers, equipment providers, project developers, consultants, utilities and other energy industry leaders.
